Although it doesn’t seem like work to him, Deputy Steven Favors works with children on a daily basis. While engaging in friendly conversation with kids in neighborhoods that he patrols, Deputy Favors sneaks in tips and guidance on numerous important issues, such as safety, problems at home and stranger awareness. Deputy Favors is particularly accessible to those he serves since he patrols his communities astride a motorcycle. Being a motorcycle deputy allows Deputy Favors to continually do the activity he loves most about his job: interact with people.
“On my bike, I have more contact with kids and adults on a one-on-one basis,” states Deputy Favors. “I am a family-oriented person. I have the same values and live in the same environment as the citizens I serve. I am the deputy these people come to know, and the relationships of trust, respect and friendship that I establish with the community form the foundation of the public safety services I provide.”
While his main function includes traffic enforcement, Deputy Favors is also involved in motorcycle escorts, safety programs for senior citizens, visits to elementary schools and presentations on bicycle safety. What Deputy Favors is inherently doing is changing people’s attitudes about law enforcement officers. “What better way to help your community than to be in law enforcement?” he asks. “If your heart tells you to be in law enforcement, follow it. Your life will be enriched by the service you provide.” |
