“It feels good to do the right thing,” states Deputy Linda Ruggiero. It’s a philosophy she follows in her job, and she shares it with the kids she meets. Whether on her motorcycle or her horse as a member of the Sheriff’s Mounted Team, Deputy Ruggiero certainly appeals to kids. “I visit high schools during the Great American Teach-In and talk to them about Driver’s Education. I inform them how to drive responsibly and what they should do if they get pulled over.”

Deputy Ruggiero also meets with parents and kids at school crossings and participates in various programs during the school year such as the “Walk Against Drugs.” It’s all part of the plan to let kids know that deputies are accessible to talk to and to help them anytime, not just during a crisis. She imparts these words of wisdom to the kids she meets: “Be yourself and do the right thing; handle all people with respect, and don’t be afraid to ask for advice.”
