“The Sheriff’s Office stands for integrity and courtesy to the public. Our responsibility is to serve the public,” stresses Deputy Glen Scharfeld. A former volunteer reservist, Deputy Scharfeld joined the Sheriff’s Office full time in 1995.
As a Community Resource Deputy, Scharfeld gets personally involved with the citizens and merchants of his neighborhoods. “We respond to the community’s varied concerns, such as traffic issues and bicycle safety. We target problem areas and proactively address matters such as vehicle theft. We also host community meetings and fundraising events. There is a lot of variety involved in this job, it’s never the same,” says Deputy Scharfeld.
Deputy Scharfeld strongly believes the community and the Sheriff’s Office must work together to solve problems. “My greatest satisfaction comes from assisting citizens with matters that make a difference,” he adds. To new recruits, Deputy Scharfeld offers some age-old advice. “Treat others the way you want to be treated. That’s all there is to it.”
