The Hillsborough
County Sheriff’s Office is a full service law enforcement
agency serving both metropolitan and rural areas, offering
careers in Law Enforcement, Detention (Corrections) and civilian support
positions.
Certified Detention Applicants
The Hillsborough
County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications
for Detention Deputies who are certified in the State
of Florida. Substantial changes have been made to the minimum
requirements. Please check the minimum requirements
before submitting a Civil Service Application.
Non-Certified Applicants
Law
Enforcement & Detention Deputy Trainee
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's
Office is now accepting applications for
the Sheriff's Office academies. The recruitment period will
remain open until further notice. If you fall into one of
the following categories you may apply:
- Not certified and meet the current Minimum Requirements
for education or prior military / law enforcement experience.
- Florida certified in law enforcement but do not have
two (2) years prior experience as a state, municipal or
county law enforcement officer.
- Attended and received certification through Florida Equivalency
of Training with prior military or federal law enforcement
experience only.
Those selected will
receive $17.23 per hour, (40 hour work week), and full benefits.
The training consists of a two week Sheriff's Orientation
Training, S.O.T., a six month academy and five to eight weeks
of module training. The Sheriff's Office will provide
all books, materials, and uniforms (excluding footwear and
firearm). After this training is completed the recruit is
sworn in and their salary increases to $44,881.20 per year
as a certified law enforcement deputy or $44,335.20 as a certified detention deputy.
Prospective applicants
should prepare now for the application process. The following
documents will be required to obtain a PIN to access the on-line
application:
- Resume
- Official High School and College transcripts.
- Copy of birth certificate from the Bureau of Vital Statistics
or original naturalization papers.
- Two (2) copies of driver's license.
- Two (2) copies of Social Security Card.
- A copy of military discharge papers, (DD214), if applicable
or if male and between the ages of 18-25 a copy of Selective
Service card.
- A copy of all documented name changes.
- Completed Civil Service Application.
*Significant
changes have been made pertaining to the minimum hiring standards.

NOTICE
TO APPLICANTS
Applicants
will be subject to a thorough and complete background investigation
which will include but may not be limited to the following:
- Detailed application and personal history.
- Initial interview and confirmation of information.
- Polygraph interview and test.
- Submission of fingerprints for classification and criminal
history information.
- Check with the National Information Center and Florida
Crime Information Center for arrest and criminal history.
- Check with law enforcement agencies the applicant may
have come in contact with within the past 10 years for any
arrests or other contacts.
- Verification of current and past employment.
- Check with personal references.
- Verify all licenses if self employed.
- Verify military record if applicable.
- Credit check.
- Oral Board Interview
- In-home Interview
- If prior law enforcement, check with employing agency
for personnel records including Internal Affairs.
In addition
to the background investigation all applicants will be required
to submit to the following tests:
- The Physical Abilities Assessment (PAA)
will consist of the following:
- 1 1/2 mile run - 15 Minutes or Less
- Sit-ups - 25 or More in One Minute
- Push-ups - 20 or More in One Minute
- 300 Meter Run - 69 Second's or Less
- Vertical Leap - 14 Inches or More
- Criminal Justice Basics Ability Test (CJBAT), also known
as Florida Basics Ability Test (FBAT), if applicable.
- Written psychological test and interview with a clinical
psychologist. (If selected)
- Medical physical examination and drug screen. (If selected)
Applicants
with acceptable backgrounds and who are otherwise competitive
in this process will be interviewed by an oral board comprised
of HCSO Staff Officers.
The
application process may take three (3) to six (6) months to
