Law Enforcement Deputy Trainee  

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for the Sheriff's Office academies. The recruitment period will remain open until further notice. If you fall into one of the following categories you may apply:

  1. Not certified and meet the current Minimum Requirements for education or prior military / law enforcement experience.
  2. Florida certified in law enforcement but do not have two (2) years prior experience as a state, municipal or county law enforcement officer.
  3. Attended and received certification through Florida Equivalency of Training with prior military or federal law enforcement experience only.

Those selected will receive $17.23 per hour, (40 hour work week), and full benefits  The training consists of a two week Sheriff's Orientation Training, S.O.T., a six month academy and eight to 10 weeks of module training  The Sheriff's Office will provide all books, materials, and uniforms (excluding footwear and firearm). After this training is completed the recruit is sworn in and their salary increases to $44,881.20 per year as a certified law enforcement deputy.

Prospective applicants should prepare now for the application process. The following documents will be required to obtain a PIN to access the on-line application:

  • Resume
  • Official High School and College transcripts.
  • Copy of birth certificate from the Bureau of Vital Statistics or original naturalization papers.
  • Two (2) copies of driver's license.
  • Two (2) copies of Social Security Card.
  • A copy of military discharge papers, (DD214), if applicable or if male and between the ages of 18-25 a copy of Selective Service card.
  • A copy of all documented name changes.
  • Completed Civil Service Application.
