American Correctional Association (ACA) The Department of Detention Services is nationally accredited by the American Correctional Association's Commission on Accreditation for Corrections. The accreditation process ensures that safeguards related to the life, health, and safety of staff and inmates are considered. A total of 441 standards address services, programs, and operations essential to effective correctional management. The department has maintained certification since 1989. Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission (FCAC) In 1999 the jail system was awarded accreditation status by the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission, which examines 266 standards. The Hillsborough County Jail was the first ever in the state of Florida to undergo an accreditation audit by this newly formed commission, and received a score of 100% compliance.
