These were real crimes in Hillsborough County:
● A man asks his teenage stepdaughter to put on her mother’s nightgown and then fondles her in the bedroom.
The HCSO analyzed all reported rape and sexual abuse cases in 2008 and found:
● Most child victims
were assaulted by family members, parents/stepparents, acquaintances or
someone personally known to the child.
● Most adult victims were assaulted by an
acquaintance or boyfriend/former boyfriend.
● Most rapes and sexual abuses occur in their home of the attacker or the victim.

o 19 cases listed suspect as a family member other than sibling
o 31 cases listed suspect as sibling or foster sibling
o 53 cases listed suspect as an acquaintance
o 21 cases the suspect was personally known (other than a family member)

Adult suspect with Juvenile victim: 234 cases
82 percent occurred at residence of suspect or victim
o 4 stranger cases
o 54 cases listed suspect a family member other than parent or sibling
o 47 cases listed suspect as parent or stepparent
o 2 cases listed suspect as foster parent
o 7 cases listed suspect as sibling
o 48 cases listed suspect as an acquaintance
o 72 cases the suspect was personally known (other than a family member)

Adult suspect with Adult victim: 112 cases
66 percent occurred at residence of suspect or victim
o 28 stranger cases reported – (14 of which had recently met the suspect)

1 met suspect on the internet
1 victim invited suspect to hotel room
1 was listed as an acquaintance
o 44 cases listed suspect as an acquaintance
o 19 cases listed suspect as a boyfriend or ex-boyfriend
o 5 cases listed suspect as the husband
o 3 cases listed suspect as a neighbor
o 6 cases listed suspect as roommate
o 3 cases listed suspect as stepparent
o 4 cases with 1 each of: coworker, facility staff, pastor and unknown
